Emergency Services & Weather Reporting
If you are experiencing dangerous or unusual weather, this page lists the emergency numbers and official bodies for major cities where you can request help or report conditions. Always contact your local emergency services first in a life-threatening situation.
In a life-threatening emergency
Call your local emergency number immediately. In the EU call 112, in the US/Canada call 911, in the UK call 999, in Australia call 000. Do not wait to report through a website. This page is a reference directory, not an emergency reporting service.
How to report unusual weather
Reporting unusual or severe weather helps meteorological agencies verify forecasts and issue warnings faster. Here is who to contact depending on what you are seeing.
Severe storms, tornadoes
Report to your national weather service. In the US, the NWS accepts spotter reports; many countries have online forms or social media reporting.
Flooding
Contact your local flood authority or emergency management agency. In the UK, report to the Environment Agency; in the US, local emergency management.
Wildfires
Call emergency services immediately. Report smoke or fire to local fire services and forestry/land agencies.
Downed power lines
Never approach. Call your electricity provider's emergency line and emergency services.
Unusual rainfall / hail
Submit an observation to your national met service; photos with time and location are especially useful.
Extreme heat or cold
Check on vulnerable neighbours. Contact health services or welfare lines if someone is at risk.
